Weather: Sunny and around 20 degrees Celsius in the morning, rain the whole afternoon and evening.
Ringing:
A nice day spent at Vallen, with 98 birds caught. We notably caught 7 Red-backed Shrikes – all juveniles – which was as always a bittersweet experience. A colour-ringed first year Yellowhammer was also caught. This male, V7-53, was ringed on the nest earlier this year in Torsholmen, together with his two siblings, as part of Kvismare Bird Observatory’s Farmland Survey. It’s really nice for us to know that he has successfully dispersed from the nest.
Today’s catch was as follows:
Species New Retrap Total
Dunnock 1 0 1
European Robin 1 0 1
Thrush Nightingale 3 0 3
Sedge Warbler 7 1 8
Marsh Warbler 4 0 4

Great Reed Warbler 0 2 2
Lesser Whitethroat 1 0 1
Common Whitethroat 7 0 7

Sum: 85 new birds+13 retraps = 98 birds of 18 species
In total 98 birds of 18 species.
During the afternoon, with the rain pouring down outside, work was restricted to inside the house. At the end of the day, however, the rain became more bearable as Annemarie and Bruno revealed that there would be chokladbollar for dessert!
