19th May
Staff: Daniel Wade (DWE), Carles Dura Franch (CDF), Cris Sellares del Pedro (CSP), Mariana Lapa (MLA), Gintaras Malmiga (GMA), Laila Aranda (LAR), Jacob Roved (JRD)
Weather: Warm sunny day, ending with a bit of rain.
Projects: GRW, Marsh Harrier
A long day for everyone.
GRW started early in the morning while the rest of the team was still recovering from last night Night Census. JRD and GMA went on Nyängen/ Löten where they found a nest, caught a male and also found a new male. LAR and MLA went to Fågelsjön and Åslasjön where we had a new male, and two pairs getting busy with building nests.
In the afternoon DWE, CDF and CSP went to Fågelsjön to check Marsh Harrier spots for nests and they successfully found 2! The team seems to have had loads of fun in the canoe where they also had the pleasure to enjoy the sunny day and see the lovely bearded reedlings around.
After a late lunch break, the GRW team joined forces to go to Sörbysjön. Although the idea was to catch and identify only 2 birds in difficult areas, the team ended up having 3 new males in the lake. With a total of 8 males and at least 3 females in Sörbysjön, it seems that the lake is getting quite popular for these birds!
Fortunately, while the GRW people were still out in the lakes working until it started raining, the rest of the team prepared a nice barbecue at Ängfallet! Even tired and stressed, we did have a nice evening with nice food out in the varanda.
Good news that the station's computer is finally working, so we can write the blog on time and tell you all, everything good that happens around here. In this case my personal computer is being used to write the blog as the office is now being used as a sleeping room due to some problems with the water canalization in the house.
Now it is bed time, as tomorrow (in 5/6 hours) everyone is waking up early to do the Wetland Census.
