Information
The ringing has started
Sun, 07/08/2007 - 11:38 — Martin Stervander
Penduline tit. Photo Albin Lundkvist. The ringing in Kvismaren started June 29 at Vallen, Västra Fågelsjön. Despite strong winds some 70 new birds were ringed, and around 20 previously ringed birds were controlled. Reed Warblers, Sedge Warblers, and Reed Buntings were most numerous. The effects of this year's advanced spring were noticeable: exceptionally many fledged juveniles, of many different species, were caught, and many adults had already started their complete summer moult.

Bird ringing
Ringer. Oskar Wändell ringing at Rysjön. When the weather is favourable, ringing takes place every morning from sunrise to noon.
History
Marsh harrier. Photo by Anthony Sturbois. On June 6, 1919, the famous Swedish ornithologist Erik Rosenberg, at that time sixteen years old, arrived with the train at Hidingsta together with his biology teacher Sven G:son Blomqvist. They made an excursion through the reeds and marshes of Kvismaren and also visited Sörön and the Resta bog. This trip was the start of modern bird watching in the Kvismaren area. Before, Kvismaren was totally unknown from an ornithologists point of view.
Guide to the area
RysjönThe nature reserve Kvismaren consists of two large reed areas, East and West Kvismaren, which have been partly restored to create two shallow lakes, Rysjön and Fågelsjön.
