In the morning, TMJ and MBR performed there Wetland Census’ in order to counteract the bad weather due in the next couple of days. MTA valiantly continued her search for a Great Reed Warbler nest in the reeds of Sörbyjön and DWE joined JMY, EKP and MPN on Skylark watch.

Starting close to home today, as there was an Ortolan bunting singing close to Ängfallet whilst we ate breakfast. We managed to locate it from the back garden and read it’s colour rings. We can confirm that it is the same bird that was singing here a couple of weeks ago- which had gone completely quiet and unseen again until now- so that’s good news!

DWE, JMY, EKP and MPN set the alarms very early in order to attempt a catch on a pair of unringed Ortolan Buntings at Sörösletten. Despite some scepticism as to the probability of success, ‘Team Ortolan’ succeeded in capturing 2 different males who now have colour rings V5-92 and H5-89. Also caught were a Yellowhammar, White Wagtail, Chaffinch and Wheatear.

Today DWE started up with the latter stages of the Hooded Crow project as he goes around to monitor the success of each of the 30 nests located in April. Today, 4 out of the 5 nests visited were still active, though the chicks were still too small to be able to count the beaks of from the ground.

MBL was out on Rysjön early and found another Great Reed Warbler nest, along with two pairs building nests. Meanwhile DHT found a new male & a new female in Åslasjön; whilst out working he also noted two Temminck stints at Sörbysjön, and 7-8 little gulls over Fågelsjön.

MBR, DHT and TMJ were out in three different locations for the Great Reed Warbler. MBR was in Nyangen trying to catch a ringed individual but without success. It was a bad day for netting due the strong wind. DHT was in Rysjön where he could find a nest and TMJ confirmed and located a male in Fågeljön (Västra).

DWE joined TMJ, MBR and DHT for a morning on the Great Reed Warbler project, whilst JMY and EKP worked on tracking down the Ortolan’s heard from Torsholmen yesterday evening.

MBL & TMJ were out again early looking for Great Reed Warblers, and later DWE returned with MBL to Fågelsjön to see if they could catch and ring a male which had been heard singing . They managed to locate the bird but were not able to capture it.
